After the SARS outbreak, Scarborough Town Center created a campaign to thank healthcare workers and stimulate the local economy.

The Macerich Company, with its patriotic and successful Old Glory*ous Celebration campaign already underway, pitched in to pay tribute to South Dakotans who aided the World War II effort.

The American Cancer Society and St. Charles Towne Center recently partnered to better educate the public about the disease and raise money for the organization’s research.

Celebrating Canada Day 1995, Queen’s Quay Terminal and a custom-design T-shirt store launched “Starworks for Kids” to benefit Kids Help Phone.

To help feed the needy, Seaview Square sold T-shirts, gathered change, and collected non-perishable food. The program was so well received that it was extended by 5 months. All proceeds—over 11,000 pounds of food and $5,500—went to the local food bank.

Scarborough Town Centre published a recipe calendar—complete with food court coupons—that celebrated its community’s cultural mosaic.

Village Green Mall reaffirmed its “Good Neighbours” marketing position by helping local high schools raise funds for their graduation ceremonies. For every $10 in purchases, customers received a “green buck” that entitled them to vote for the local high school of their choice. The winning school received $1,000 for their ceremony, while a local radio station provided $500 as a second prize. March sales increased by 15% over the prior year, or about $250,000.

Patrick Henry Mall had its own “Cans Festival”—but with food instead of films. Local businesses, clubs, schools, and non-profit teams were invited to create and showcase 10-foot-side sculptures made using food cans and some minor props. Each team had 24 hours to build, and had to provide their own materials. Nearly 3,000 pounds of food—or 2,333 meals—were donated to the local food bank at the end of the event.

In July 1994, Tropical Storm Alberto ravaged Florida and Georgia. Infinitee Communications Inc., an Atlanta-based company, designed and sold 800 T-shirts to make a $4,000 contribution to the American Red Cross.
